“Nick's new CD just rocks! He balances traditional roots blues with a fresh new approach and an ‘out of the trad' box' sound. I applaud him. Play what's in your heart, the crowd will follow."
Jimmy Thackery
on Privileged
“An interesting aspect about this album is that although it seems like a big change for Nick Moss at first listen, it has a tendency to grow on you quickly, to the point of sounding emphatically like another Nick Moss blues gem.

”It’s clear by listening to Privileged that Moss has found a way to smash through that barrier to forge his own sound, a sound that may bring blues into the new decade or move Moss into a wider audience. Privileged is the work of a man at the top of his game, and his profession. Jon Norton
Music Director, WGLT
(Normal, IL)
“Moss and co. serve up a second set of live music, replete with Moss’ fine soloing and stunning command of Chicago Blues.”
Vintage Guitar
(on Live At Chan's 2)
“Moss’ tone is aggressive yet clear; his chordal string-shivers evoke Otis Rush in his prime, and his leads snake and shimmer their way to glory with a distinctive blend of forward-thrusting impetus and playful yet focused exploratory rambunctiousness.”
Living Blues Magazine
(on Live At Chan's 2)
“The versatility and musicianship of the Flip Tops is at times spell-binding… Transport yourself to North Clark or Halsted in Chicago or recall a night on Chicago’s Southside. That feeling and those sounds are here in all their glory.”
Elmore Magazine/
The Alternate Root
(on Live At Chan's 2)
“...from the first hard-rocking chorus of ‘Late Night Saint’, the opening number on disc one here, it’s clear that guitarist/ vocalist Nick Moss is going for broke on this one - full steam ahead, and damn the consequences.... the level of energy and commitment the principals bring to it should make it appealing to a wide spectrum of blues lovers, not just dyed-in-the-wool postwar purists.”
Living Blues Magazine
(on Play It Til Tomorrow)
“Moss’ music evokes classic Chicago in a way few contemorary artists achieve... an extra-long set with an encore that goes straight on 'til morning.”
Blues Revue
(on Play It Til Tomorrow)
“The songs within Play It ’Til Tomorrow aren’t imitation by any means, or even just good takes on a genuine blues style. The music on these two CDs are the real deal. They’re driving, exciting, and electrifying tunes.”
Modern Guitars
“Both discs are full of raw energy typified by Muddy, Wolf, Dawkins and othe rWindy City bluesmen... ”
Chico News & Review
(on Play It Til Tomorrow)
“Moss' guitar sizzles and stings like a cross between Mike Bloomfield and Muddy Waters, while the 'Tops' pound rollicking Chi-Town blues within an inch of its life.”
The Virginian-Pilot (VA)
(on Play It Til Tomorrow)
“No young blues guitarist gets it off his chest so passionately and convincingly as Nick Moss...”
Downbeat
(on Live at Chan's 1)
“[Moss’] approach to this music makes him arguably the most exciting young blues player on the scene today.”
Blues Revue
(on Live at Chan's 1)
“Hot Lick: Prominently features Moss’ soaring chops on a number of no-frills Chicago blues excursions.”
Guitar One
(on Live At Chan's 1)
“Nick Moss is the best thing to happen to Chicago Blues in a month of Blue Mondays, and Sadie Mae is his best yet.”
No Depression
“If you’re uneasy about the future of the blues, you’ll find hope in Nick Moss. He maintains the finest in Chicago’s straightforward, gutbucket sound while eschewing the all-too-common use of special guests and cliched covers. A contemporary, personal take on a classic sound.”

Nick Moss & the Flip Tops’ 2009 release Live at Chan’s: Combo Platter No. 2 was the highly-anticipated follow-up to the band’s 2006 album, Live At Chan’s (Vol. 1), also recorded at the venerable haven of Chinese food and blues in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. This time, the band ‘raised the stakes’ by bringing in special guest, fellow Chicago blues stalwart Lurrie Bell. Moss & Bell team up for some massive blues guitar interplay that recalls a Saturday night on Chicago’s Southside, and the excitement and energy that these two guitarists bring to this set is palpable.

Nick Moss’ Play It ’Til Tomorrow is comprised of two jam-packed discs spotlighting the entire width and breadth of his band’s sonic attack. Longtime fans will immediately recognize the stinging electric blues sound that characterizes the first CD, but on disc two Nick introduces an ‘unplugged’ side that he’s never before tapped in the studio. 28 tracks! Talk about value for the money: you’ll be playing these two discs ’til tomorrow and for a long time after that. Featuring Gerry Hundt, Willie Oshawny, and Bob Carter, with guests Eddie Taylor Jr and Barrelhouse Chuck. Includes liner notes by Bill Dahl.

Live At Chan’s was Recorded at Chans Eggroll & Jazz in Woonsocket, RI in July of 2005. Nick had been approached by some blues fans from the east coast earlier that year, who had wondered when he was going to release a live record. Moss replied that he had always wanted to, but there just weren't any plans to put one out just yet. The two fans convinced Nick to let them make the necessary arrangements, and, with the help of their engineer friend (who has a recording company outfitted with a mobile recording truck), Live At Chan’s was conceived. The set features current Flip Tops Gerry Hundt and Piano Willie Oshawny, as well as special guest Monster Mike Welch (Moss wanted to reciprocate after east coast native Monster Mike had asked him to record on 2005’s Cryin’ Hey on the Dixie Frog label.)

Following on the musical and critical success of both of his previous self-produced CDs, Count Your Blessings showcases his growing talent as a songwriter and his ever-broadening repertoire. The CD features many special guests including Anson Funderburgh and Sam Myers, taking time off from their duties with the Rockets, and Curtis Salgado in a rarely heard role playing harp as well as singing. Barrelhouse Chuck, torchbearer of the Chicago piano tradition and Moss’ long-time pal and band-mate, contributes his thundering yet deft keyboard work to every track and sings two oft-neglected classic numbers. Lynwood Slim, another of Moss’ very close old friends, blows harp, sings one number and also produced the session. To top it off are guest rhythm-masters Bob Stroger on bass and Willie Smith on drums. Every one of these honored musical mentors and friends were chosen by Moss to acknowledge his debt and gratitude to them. The emphasis is on a bedrock Chicago ensemble sound, which even the out-of-town guests are very well hip to.

Having toured extensively as a member of the Legendary Blues Band and with the late Chicago master Jimmy Rogers before setting out on his own, Nick soaked up the right influences during his formative years to keep the classic Windy City sound alive and kicking. His brand of blues is resolutely traditional in scope and permeated in rich, ears-open ensemble playing, yet his youth and enthusiasm keep things lively and contemporary. Nick keeps his guitar work precisely to the point and razor-sharp, his vocals are confident and convincing, and he’s a prolific songwriter. His debut album First Offense was uncommonly solid, and the impressively varied Got A New Plan promises to further spread the word that Nick Moss is a young Chicago bluesman worth watching and hearing.
The impressive debut! After touring for years with the likes of Jimmy Dawkins, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith and the Legendary Blues Band, and Jimmy Rogers, Nick put his own band together, and in 1998 released First Offense, a collection of songs deeply rooted in the Chicago tradition, yet showing remarkable variety and stylistic skill.

Countless great songs in the blues idiom use the road as a metaphor; we're all on one and sometimes it takes us unexpected places. This seems especially true for artists. No one would blame Nick Moss if he interpreted the win as Blues Blast's “Best Blues Band” for he and The Flip Tops as a reason to stay the course for his eighth record Privileged. Just as Robert Johnson had rambling on his mind and John Lee Hooker had those wandering blues, Nick heard the call and has forged a new path. Changing direction is no admission of failure or surrender and the evidence can be heard on each of these 11 tracks. Privleged represents a change in direction but not inspiration, a fact that becomes obvious with each listen. Liner notes enclosed by Josh Hathaway (BlogCritics)

From the liner note by Dick Shurman: “Sadie Mae makes it apparent that Nick Moss has reached new heights and become a serious musical force to be reckoned with. Moss’ formidable command of the timeless 1950s Chicago soundsand all its musical twists and turns since thencaptivates the listener via his top-shelf guitar work, vocals showing a new level of effectiveness and expressiveness, and a program heavy on personal songwriting about topics ranging from his own family to one of Chicago’s most notorious ghetto scenesters.
